High Blood vs Low Blood – Is one different from the other?
April 20, 2018
Controlling your blood pressure is important wether you have diabetes or not. Blood pressure is one of the vital signs to monitor in order to determine the physical status of a person. So, having a regular check up on your blood pressure would be a really good move to prevent life-threatening complications and can even save your life. Let’s determine the difference between High blood pressure and Low blood pressure.
The blood pressure is the pressure of blood in you arteries as it is being pumped by the heart.
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
High blood pressure occurs when the blood exerts more than the acceptable amount of pressure against the blood vessels. This may increase the risk of having stroke, dementia, kidney damage, and heart failure.
High blood can be a result of ingesting too much salt, not eating enough fruits and vegetables, being obese, or drinking too much alcohol.
Some of the symptoms that may appear when the blood pressure is really high are:
– Severe headache
– Fatigue or confusion
– Vision problems
– Chest pain
– Difficulty breathing
– Irregular heartbeat
– Blood in the urine
– Pounding in your chest, neck, or ears
Exercise regularly, eat nutritious food, take less salt and oil, quit smoking, limit drinking, and take prescribe medications to prevent a worse case of high blood pressure.
Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension)
Low blood pressure happens when the amount of pressure that blood exerts against the blood vessels is too low. This may lead to reduced blood flow to the heart, brain, and other vital organs.
Low blood may be a result of aging, dehydration, pregnancy, hormonal problems such as an underactive thyroid, diabetes, or low blood sugar, heart failure, heat stroke and others.
These symptoms may occur in extreme cases:
– Dizziness or lightheadedness
– Blurred vision
– Cold, clammy, pale skin
In preventing a low blood pressure to get worse, one must: ingest more salt, drink plenty of water, avoid heat stroke, and take medications such as fludrocortisone or midodrine.
High Blood Pressure and Low Blood Pressure are two different conditions that occur when the blood pressure is not at normal acceptable terms.
