While seasonal influenza or flu are detected all year-round, flu viruses are most common during the later months. The exact timing and duration of flu seasons varies, but influenza activity often begins to increase in September.
What causes the FLU?
Influenza or flu, is a respiratory illness caused by the spread of a virus. It is highly contagious and spreads through tiny droplets. An infected person can pass it on most commonly through physical contact.
A person with flu typically experiences:
- Stuffy or runny nose
- Cold sweats and shivers
- Dry cough
- Low appetite
Although not everyone with the flu will have all these symptoms. For instance, some people may have it without a fever
